How does a disciple make another disciple of Christ? DISUSSION QUESTIONS:

  1. Discuss the fact that a believer who has been established in the faith is no longer like a spiritual child who is ‘carried about by every wind of doctrine’ (see Eph 4:14-15ff.; Col 2:6-7;1 Pet 2:1-2).
  2. Discuss why sound doctrine is essential to one’s progress toward spiritual maturity (see 2 Tim 1:13-14; Titus 1:9; 2:1; Heb 5:11-14).
  3. Disciple-makers help connect believers to their spiritual resources in Christ. What are some of the consequences of not knowing about, and/or not living by one’s resources in Christ? (HINT: consequences such as attempting the Christian life in the strength of one’s flesh; hesitancy to ‘risk’ ministry, etc.).
  1. Disciple-makers train their disciples in righteousness (2 Tim 3:16), and do so in a ‘relational space’ of life-on-life soul care. List some of the advantages of training in righteousness within close, caring relationships (HINT: accountability, personal instruction, Biblical counsel that addresses specific needs).
  2. Discuss how our identification truths in Christ (union with Christ) are powerful incentives to holiness (HINT: locate every use of in Christ, in Him, and in Whom in Ephesians chapters one and two).
  1. Discuss the following: rather than merely asking members to join church programs, disciple-making has the great advantage of helping disciples find their specific place of ministry within the Body of Christ.
  2. Disciple-making involves ‘closing the loop’—in other words, investing in a disciple ought to be deliberate preparation of the disciple to learn to mentor another disciple. Discuss 2 Timothy 2:2.
