World-proofing Workshop with Professor Jay Wegter
February 8, 2014 at Grace Baptist Church
The vast majority of believing high school graduates are unprepared for the onslaught of soul-destroying philosophies they will receive in a public university. Biblical worldview provides the spiritual ‘weapons’ necessary to stand against this unrelenting tide. The false worldviews of our culture can send shockwaves through the faith of those not established in the Word of God. Our seminar is designed to equip students, parents, educators and Christian leaders to deconstruct the lies which permeate our secular universities.
SESSION ONE: Biblical Cosmology; the Foundation of the Gospel
Christianity is grounded in cosmology (the study of the origin, order, laws, and nature of the universe). Biblical cosmology is the big picture—it is God’s relation to the cosmos. God’s relation to the creation determines all other questions—His relation to the universe is ultimate reality. As a consequence, there are really only two worldviews: either God is ultimate, or chance is ultimate. If chance is ultimate then morals, ethics, meaning, dignity, good, evil, and love are illusions. And if chance is ultimate, then man is but a biological robot—a programmed survival mechanism. The academy today is teaching the absurd life view that chance is ultimate. In our first lecture, you will learn how to deconstruct the ‘chance’ cosmology of the academy.
SESSION TWO: Deconstructing Idolatry in Education (Romans One)
God’s ‘Blueprint’ for gender and sexuality is an essential part of His moral government over us. Since the fall in Eden, mankind has sought to shred God’s blueprint. Romans chapter one is an in-depth look into the heart commitment of the unbeliever. Romans one is also God’s analysis of 1ˢᵗ C. Greco-Roman culture as well as an analysis of our own current culture. The parallels are chilling: the public advocacy of both homosexuality and infanticide. Romans one reveals the precise worldview behind the legitimizing of homosexuality. In this lecture you will discover from Romans chapter one that a person’s cosmology totally shapes his or her spirituality, which in turn also shapes one’s view of sexuality.
SESSION THREE: Christian Apologetics: answering a Culture of Skepticism
According to Colossians 2:8, every individual falls into one of two camps: he is either a captive of false philosophy, or free in Christ. Christians don’t have to be intimidated by the common ‘defeater beliefs’ that are parroted by unbelievers in an attempt to make the gospel sound implausible (“evolution is a fact; all religions have validity; Christianity is the cause war; it is wrong to make moral judgments; to be against gay marriage is to oppose human rights, etc.”). In this session you will learn how to intelligently discuss your faith with an unbeliever. You will discover how to utilize ‘ultimate questions’ in order to bring to the surface the worldview assumptions which unbelievers blindly accept. Ultimate questions include: Where did we come from? Why are we here? What is the authoritative source of right and wrong? Is God knowable? Has He revealed Himself clearly and authoritatively? Is there universal moral truth?
